What’s the installation requirement for sealing gasket?

Flange gaskets are used to create a static seal between two flanges faces,at various operating conditions,with varied pressure and temperature ratings.Here are the sealing gasket installation requirements:

1.The sealing surface of sealing gasket and flange shall be cleaned, and there shall be no scratch, spot and other defects that affect the sealing performance of the connection.

2.The outer diameter of the sealing gasket should be smaller than that of the flange sealing surface, and the inner diameter of the sealing gasket should be slightly larger than the inner diameter of the pipeline. The difference between the two inner diameters is generally taken as 2 times of the thickness of the sealing gasket, so as to ensure that the inner edge of the sealing gasket will not extend into the container or pipe after being compressed, so as to avoid hindering the flow of fluid in the container or pipeline.

3.The pre tightening force of sealing gasket should not exceed the design specification, so as to prevent the sealing gasket from losing resilience due to excessive compression.

4.When sealing gasket is pressed, it is better to use torque wrench. For large bolts and high strength bolts, it is better to use hydraulic tightening device. The tightening torque shall be calculated according to the given sealing gasket compression, and the oil pressure of the hydraulic tightening device shall also be determined by calculation.

5.When installing the sealing gasket, tighten the nuts in sequence. But it should not be screwed once to reach the design value. Generally, it should be cycled at least 2-3 times, so that the stress distribution of sealing gasket is uniform.

6.For pressure vessels and pipes with flammable and explosive media, safety tools should be used when replacing sealing gasket, so as to avoid fire or explosion accidents caused by collision between tools and flange or bolt.

7.If there is leakage in the pipeline, the sealing gasket must be replaced or adjusted after depressurization treatment. It is strictly prohibited to operate under pressure.
