The forging process of the flange for overburning means that the heating temperature of the metal billet is too high or the residence time in the high temperature heating zone is too long. Oxygen and other oxidizing gases in the furnace penetrate into the gaps between the metal grains and interact with iron, sulfur, Oxidation of carbon, etc., forms a eutectic of fusible oxides, destroying the relationship between the grains, and sharply reducing the plasticity of the material. Metals that are severely overburned will crack with a single blow when they are withdrawn. Lateral cracks will appear in the overburned areas when they are pulled out.
There is no strict temperature boundary for overheating and overburning. Overburning is generally judged by the occurrence of oxidation and melting of grains. For carbon steel, the grain boundary melts during overheating, and severely oxidized tool steels (high-speed steel, Cr12 steel, etc.) are overfired, and fishbone-like bainite appears in the grain boundary due to melting. When the aluminum alloy is overburned, the grain boundary melting triangle and remelting balls appear. After the forging is overburned, it is often irretrievable and has to be scrapped.
