How to select right gasket for flange connection?

Gasket plays an important role in pipeline connection,to choose the proper flange gasket, should take into consideration the following:Temperature,Pressure,Corrosion resistance,Fluid type,Robustness,Availability,Cost. While gaskets are relatively cheap components of the whole piping system,but its reliability and integrity are very important and should not be ignored.

The types of gasket usually are Non-Metallic gasket,Metallic gasket,and composite gasket.

Non-Metallic gasket are also called soft gasket,which are made from Graphite, Rubber, Teflon, PTFE and Compressed Non-Asbestos Fiber (CNAF).Used with low-pressure class flanges such as 150 and 300 Class and also in low-temperature,with flange face FF and RF,But graphite gasket ,which can be used up to 500 Degree centigrade.Rubber and elastomer gaskets cannot be used in hydrocarbon fluid but used in utility lines.Another they are cheapest and easily available.

Non-Asbestos Gasket

Metallic gasket, also known as ring gasket or RTJ gaskets,material such as Soft iron, Low Carbon steel, Stainless Steel, Monel, and Inconel.Used in high-pressure class flanges, normally above 900 Class, they can also be used for high-temperature,require high tension bolting, very strong,also cost highest.
